New RPG

I’ve been trying to keep busy game-making while I’m waiting for the bidding process on The Naked Alien to pan out. The game is 100% at this point, so I feel bad I have to keep you guys waiting, but that’s business, I guess. The release date is out of my hands at this point.

I’m feeling good because I didn’t lose energy or momentum at the end of TNA. Usually when I finish a game, I’m so sick of it I go into a long stupor where I spend most of my time watching TV or staring out the window (two activities that are equal in the amount of money I can earn from them XD). I’m really gonna try to make games faster, though. I don’t wanna deal with worrying about money again; it’s a terrible feeling, and even a little bit of difficulty with sponsors freaks me out these days. If I work steadily – not even hard or quickly, but just steadily – I shouldn’t have any problem doing three, maybe even four, games in a year. And then I can give you all more fun stuff to play, too. :3

Et voila, here’s the fruit of only a few days of labor. Last night I made those leaf tiles and kind of surprised myself. In my last post I asked if you guys thought a pixel art William and Sly would be cool. You all seemed pretty united in thinking it was a bad idea, but maybe this will change your minds a bit. I didn’t really know I was capable of this kind of stuff so quickly. On top of it there’s a bit of parallax on the trees that make them seem very dimensional. The art is all double pixels but it still moves with regular pixels so it’s very smooth and sleek. Maybe I’ll upload a demo one of these days.

Anyway, I also found some inspiring pixel art that I think would be quite worthy in a WaS game:

CLICK ME :D

So I’m leaning more towards doing it in the future, now. What do you guys think?

It looks good but I’m still not so sure about a pixel game. It just doesn’t feel the same. I would play a pixel game, but I’d rather a W&S with better visuals like the first two. But it should bring in some adventure/RPG elements. You should try Braid (Puzzle-Platformer) if you haven’t already.

I’d still play it, but it remains that I’d rather one similar to the original two. I won’t offer any of what I think you should do for these games, as these are your games more so than mine (unless I were to buy them for the forty cents in my pocket and an empty iTunes giftcard, so let me know if we can make a deal), but I haven’t been much of a huge fan of pixilated games (except the Super Mario Rampage thing because I’m a sociopath).

The concept of a William and Sly 3 is exciting, nonetheless. You’ll do what you will, and I’ll probably end up playing it regardless. Just thought I’d reiterate what I said last time.

Well, I’ve actually been considering trying to make a larger WaS game and selling it for a few dollars rather than doing the flash sponsorship route. So, save up those 42 cents! lol…

In the end it’ll be decided by how much fun I have making pixel art. Which is a lot, I’ll tell you. :D I’m betting that what I’m learning with pixel art can translate over to vectors, though, and I could make some rather nice art with anti-aliasing that way. I don’t love drawing in flash, though.

If you do go ahead and make a pixelated William and Sly I would suggest not calling it William and Sly 3, but rather something like William and Sly Adventures or William and Sly Pixel Adventures.

If you want to do William and Sly pixel game I think you should. However, if it’s going to be RPGesque I don’t think there should be random loot drops, instead have it more like Legend of Zelda games, where there just certain items you acquire at certain times in the game.
